IM/2 is the culmination of Impersonal Movement practice: It brings this work full circle.
While IM/1 deconstructs the sense of the personal-I, giving us a glimpse of the awakened or unitive state not limited by a central watcher, IM/2 works exclusively with the personal self and helps return the practice of Impersonal Movement to the body.
The personal selfas understood in IM/2is not the neurotic self, but the sense of personhood that remains after our history no longer has an exclusive hold on our attention.
IM/1 and IM/2 do not work within a psychological model, yet they bring up psychological work. In IM/2 we work with effort and contact to find the personal with no history. The personal with no history is the only version of the individual who can stand fearlessly in the face of the Absolute. It is the vivid reclamation of the (now) integrated ego that makes each of us a unique expression of God’s love. Because this awareness is centered in the body, the body can now return to its primary purpose, which is to be a specific place in which God can dwell.
IM/2 helps us live more fully in what Jason Shulman calls linguistic space, which is the meeting place of the personal and impersonal self.
Linguistic space is the foundation of all manifestation. When we begin to perceive and live in linguistic space, we begin to understand how the entire created world is attempting to echo the original Word that brought the world into being.
This is the place of highest creativity, where our personality and our universal nature are not in conflict, but support each other in the exploration of what it means to be a free human being.
